How to Install iOS 9 Firmware:

Before we get busy, there are a couple of things you need to do:

First, make sure that iTunes is up to date; you will need it for two methods:

1. Launch iTunes and click Help > Check For Updates
2. If iTunes requires updating, instructions will appear on the screen – follow them

Second, make sure your data is backed up – if anything goes wrong, you will lose everything.

Third, disable Find My iPhone/iPad and Passcode (Touch ID if it is enabled). These can be switched back on later.

Method 1: Over the Air (OTA)

While this is the smallest update, it is not compatible with any jailbreak; if you intend to install Cydia, do not use this method:

1. Launch Settings > General on your device
2. Choose Software Update
3. When iOS 9 update is found tap Download
4. Tap on Install and leave your device to update; when it reboots, it will be on the Hello screen.

Method 2: iTunes

1. Plug your device into your computer and open iTunes
2. If you have two or more devise registered, click the Summary for the device connected
3. Click on Update>Install
4. Wait; your iPhone or iPad will reboot when the update is finished
5. The Hello screen appears, and you can begin setting your device up

Method 3: iTunes with IPSW

1. Click the IPSW link below that corresponds to your device
2. Connect your device to your C/Mac and open iTunes
3. Choose the Summary for the connected device (only if you have more than one registered)
4. Press either the SHIFT (Windows) or ALT (Mac) key and click Restore at the same time
5. Find your IPSW file and click on it

7. When its all done, your device will reboot into the Hello screen

How to Install the Latest iOS Version on Your iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch:

If you want to install the update via OTA, simply fire up Settings app on your iDevice, tap on Software Update and then install the available update.

In case you want to delete your existing iOS and install the fresh OS from scratch, you’ll have to use iTunes.

Install the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Launch it and connect your device with PC. Make a backup and then keep pressed the ALT key on Mac or SHIFT key on Windows and click on “RESTORE iPhone….” button. A new window will appear to select the downloaded iOS file. Navigate to the place where you have saved the iOS iPSW file.

The remaining process is simple and mostly automatic. iTunes will restore the iOS and your phone will restart after the successful operation.

Will I lose all the data during iOS Installation?

If we select OTA method for the upgrade, all the data remain intact. On the other hand, if we restore iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch by using iTunes, we lose all data. After the restoration is finished, we have to set it up again as we do on a new device.

Why I can’t Install old versions of iOS on my iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch?

As soon as the new version for the supported device is released, Apple drops the support for previous iOS versions. The company uses a unique signing process every time we restore our device to an iOS version. If the iOS release is older, Apple’s servers don’t approve the signing process. If the iOS version is the latest one, Apple signs it and we can successfully begin the restore process.

What are IPSW files anyway?

The IPSW acronym is thought to stand for iPhone Software. IPSW files are essentially just packages to deliver updates to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch including the baseband and firmware. Anytime you update your device iTunes will grab a new IPSW from Apple’s servers. People are generally concerned with IPSW files for either exploration into the workings of iOS and the iPhone, or for jailbreaking and unlocking purposes.

Jailbreaking

IPSW files are most pertinent to Pwnage since you can use a custom IPSW file if you wanted to. You can download PwnageTool if you need it. Redsn0w works as well but may require a tethered jailbreak for some iOS versions.

Recent rulings have ensured that jailbreaking your iPhone is not illegal, although Apple maintains that it will void your warranty.
