Камера. Возможности фото и видео
iPhone 8 получил 12 Мпикс основную камеру с апертурой ƒ/1.8. Присутствует оптический зум, 10-кратный цифровой зум. Камера получила оптическую стабилизацию изображения, шестилинзовый объектив, вспышку True Tone Quad-LED с функцией Slow Sync.

Compared to the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 brings minimal upgrades. But compared to the iPhone 6/6S, wow, you’ll be very pleased with the jump forward — particularly if you’re seeking a familiar and compact phone.
Apple isn’t rocking the boat in the iPhone 8, but its feature improvements make notable improvements in all the right places. The glass back means wireless charging is possible. Buy the relevant charging cable and the addition of Quick Charge is great. The boost in power is also spot on for AR applications and smooth operation from iOS 12 — soon to be iOS 13 — and all your favourite apps.
However, the Face ID-toting iPhone models are hard to ignore — but they do cost quite a premium over what you’d pay for an iPhone 8.
Yet iPhone 8 remains small, compact, powerful, and will deliver the ideal phone experience for many — especially those who aren’t fussed with all the latest and greatest features, newer design, and the costs associated with them. Just because it has minimal upgrades doesn’t mean it doesn’t deliver maximum satisfaction.

Portrait Lighting Mode
The iPhone 7 Plus introduced portrait mode, which made pictures of people more appealing on a smartphone camera. It leveraged a telephoto lens to cut down on the unflattering wide-angle distortion of the main camera, and it added a fake blur effect that, for better or worse, could sometimes trick viewers into thinking a portrait was shot on a fancier camera. The iPhone 8 Plus still does all of this.
The standard Portrait Mode is now called “natural light” and it does a good job under the right conditions. Even here, though, you can see some jagged edges around the hair on the right side of the frame. Stan Horaczek
For the most part, Portrait Mode worked. The fake blur was passable if you didn’t look too closely at often-jagged edges of your subject, and the longer lens didn’t require you to get uncomfortably close for a headshot. But it had serious usability drawbacks and the iPhone 8 Plus doesn’t really fix most of the annoying things about Portrait mode, but instead, added a new AI-driven lighting mode.
The iPhone 8 Plus’s telephoto “portrait” camera still doesn’t have optical image stabilization. Combined with a lens that still maxes out at an f/2.8 aperture, it’s easy to shoot a blurry picture in Portrait Mode unless you’re shooting in bright, even light. The image quality also gets extremely noisy (ugly speckles that muddy up your image), when light gets low. You can sometimes convert to black-and-white and call it “grain,” but that’s only going to fool so many folks.
The Theater Lighting setting is baffling to me and while I got it to work, it was extremely challenging to make it look good. Here’s an example of a common failure. Stan Horaczek
I find the actual Portrait Lighting effects cheesy. Using most of the modes involves moving overly harsh highlights around the face to try and give an image shape where it didn’t otherwise exist. I don’t even think the examples Apple uses in its own commercial look particularly appealing. All the Lighting modes are a gimmicks right now, especially the Theater Lighting mode, which blacks out the background surrounding the subject and punches up the contrast. It’s also worth noting that processing a Portrait Lighting shot takes roughly two seconds, which is much longer than the nearly instantaneous nature of a normal shot. Presumably it takes a lot of processing power, which is why it didn’t make its way to the iPhone 7 Plus—so don’t expect too many tries at a single portrait.
The Portrait Lighting effect exists in part thanks to the switch over to the HEIF photo format, which replaces JPEG with a format that can include multiple images in a single file. Because Apple can now easily attach metadata, such as its editing history or applied effects, to each image, it can save the original file and enable things like Portrait Lighting Mode, or even the fake blur of the regular Portrait Mode later. It’s nice to have the option if you don’t want to be locked into one look with a photo forever. This is something photographers who shoot in raw have been doing for a long time, but now the advantages are extended to snap shooters.
Shot in even, overcast light, these apples are rendered nicely by the 8 Plus using the telephoto camera in Portrait Mode with Depth Effect. The color balance is slightly blue, but that’s not out of the ordinary when shooting in shade like this. Stan Horaczek
iPhone 8 Wireless Charging
Once upon a time, Apple said it was unclear how much convenience wireless charging actually added. Same with NFC payments. Steve Jobs, famously, said no one wanted to watch video on an iPod. Now we have the TV app in our Home screens, Apple Pay in our hands and, with iPhone8, Qi standard inductive charging from any nearby pad.

I’m not a huge fan of inductive charging. I’ve had it on phones since my Palm Pre in 2009 and on one Android phone or another over the years.
It does offer convenience. Rather than having to reach for and find the end of a Lightning cable, and fumble with getting it into the Lightning port, you can simply drop your iPhone 8 down on the pad and it’ll start charging. Mostly.
My experience is that every once and awhile, it’ll miss the sweet spot or get jostled off of it at some point and simply not charge. The same is true for iPhone 8.
It’s also not as fast or as efficient as wired charging. The current Qi implementation feels about as fast as using the tiny square brick that comes with iPhone 8. Meanwhile, wired charging with an iPad brick is significantly faster and, and getting faster still with an iPad USB-C brick — up to 50% in 30 minutes.
Still, setting up a Qi pad on the table next to your bed or the desk where you work is nice. When you’re tired or busy — as long as you make sure the connection takes — it’s super nice.
Two things have to happen for it to go beyond super nice, though. At least for me.
- The presence of Qi pads in restaurants, coffee shops, hotels, and vehicles has to rapidly increase.
- Contact charging needs to give way to short distance charging.
Apple pushing Qi could and should help with the first one. There’s nothing like flooding a market with tens and eventually hundreds of millions of implementations to get supporting industries to take notice. When every Starbucks, McDonald’s, Aloft, and Uber has one, the value will be astronomically higher.
Apple super-setting Qi, the way the company is already doing with it’s AirPower pad, coming next year, could and hopefully will result in the technology improving faster. As long as the pad/pod is on the table or desk, I should be able to drop my iPhone anywhere within a few inches and have it just charge, sweet spot be damned.
AirPower will charge either an iPhone, , and (with an upcoming and sold-separately new charging case), or up to two iPhones and a Watch or AirPods. It’s already an example of Apple super-setting Q, and hopefully just the first.
Use The Camera Grid To Improve Composition
The iPhone 8 Camera app includes a built-in grid that helps you compose your photos. You can use the gridlines to ensure your pictures are level. And it’s perfect for helping you compose your shot using the rule of thirds.
To switch on the camera grid, go to the Settings app. Scroll down and select Camera, then turn the Grid option on (green).
When you open the Camera app, you’ll see the rule of thirds grid in the viewfinder.
The Rule of Thirds is a classic composition technique. It states that placing your subject off-center creates a more visually pleasing image.
So rather than having your subject in the middle of the frame, place it on one of the intersections where the gridlines meet.
If you’re shooting landscapes, position the horizon on the top or bottom gridline. This usually looks better than having the horizon across the middle of the frame.
You should also use the gridlines to ensure your camera is level before pressing the shutter. This is particularly important in landscape photography. When composing your shot, line a horizontal gridline up with the horizon line. The result will be a perfectly level photo!
Good composition is the key to creating eye-catching photos. So turn on the iPhone 8 camera grid, and use it to help you compose the perfect shot!

Не тормозит ли он часом?
Конечно же, нет! iPhone 8 работает очень быстро, анимация летает и ни капельки не лагает.
Однако в один момент мне всё-таки удалось словить небольшие, но всё же тормоза. Это случилось, когда в один из разов я достал аппарат из кармана и разблокировал его вполне обычным прикосновением к сенсору Touch ID. Анимация разблокировки сработала с едва заметными тормозами. Будто я застал смартфон в не самый подходящий момент, когда он был занят обработкой каких-то процессов. Единичный случай, больше не повторившийся.
По поводу производительности в приложения и играх можно сказать, что запаса прочности iPhone 8 ещё очень на долго. На три-четыре года точно.
И, кстати, именно обычная восьмёрка по праву может называться самым мощным смартфонов в мире. Ниже рейтинг от Geekbench, который подтверждает это.
Говорим спасибо низкому разрешению экрана. Процессору не нужно обрабатывать лишние пиксели, потому 8 Plus и даже iPhone X остались чуточку позади своего младшего собрата.
Тест оперативной памяти
В новом поколении у нас, как и раньше, 2 ГБ оперативной памяти и по меркам мира Android этого крайне мало. Но только не для iPhone 8. Вот результаты моего теста.
Я провёл грязный тест: пользовался смартфоном как обычно, в фоне было открыто 26 приложений. Запустил Safari и открыл пять своих тяжёлых обзоров:
- Обзор iPhone 8
- Обзор iPhone 8 Plus
- Обзор OnePlus 5
- Обзор HTC U11
- Обзор Samsung Galaxy S8
Переключение между вкладками происходило безболезненно. Ничего не перезагружалось, внутри текстов без проблем запускались YouTube-вставки и так далее.
Затем я вышел и открыл ещё несколько утилит: Фото, Камеру, Instagram и карты Google. Вернулся в Safari и все открытые вкладки начали перезагружаться. Другими словами…
2 ГБ оперативной памяти — это всё-таки маловато даже для iOS.
На фоне стандартной восьмёрки версия Plus выглядит монстром и вот почему. Старшая модель получила уже 3 ГБ «оперативки» и это позволяет ей без проблем держать в фоне 46 приложений, как было в моём случае. Я открыл те же самые обзоры, далее запустил ещё десяток других программ, включая World of Tanks и AR-утилиту Night Shift и только тогда две из открытых в Safari вкладки начали перезагружаться. Что называется — почувствуй разницу.
Оптическая стабилизация изображения
Появление оптической стабилизации в цифровых камерах облегчила жизнь фотографов, позволив им обходится без штатива для получения резких кадров в условиях слабого освещения. Штатив – необходимый аксессуар в арсенале фотографа, но является помехой, когда от фотографа требуется оперативность и мобильность. Все знают, что такое «шевеленка» – нечеткая картинка, возникшая из-за дрожания камеры при съемке «с рук» на большой выдержке. В таких случаях и выручает стабилизатор изображения, компенсирующий дрожание с помощью гироскопических сенсоров, управляющюх устройством балансировки объектива относительно сцены. Выигрыш в величине допустимой экспозиции составляет 3–4 ступени. Широкоугольная камера iPhone 8 plus оснащена оптической стабилизацией для фото и видео съемки. Ожидалось, что Apple встроит оптическую стабилизацию и в телефото камеру, к сожалению, этого не произошло. Такая привилегия досталась iPhone X.
Так работает стабилизатор изображения. Машинерия сцены Московского дворца молодежи. iPhone 8 Plus, ISO 160, 3.99 мм, f/1.8, 1/4 сек. Без стабилизатора на такой длинной выдержке резкий кадр возможен только со штативом.
Should I upgrade to the iPhone 8 or 8 Plus?
Once again, Apple has loaded up its latest line of smartphones with excellent cameras. If you’re all about traditional photography and aren’t fussed on the Portrait Mode, the two iPhones are as good as each other.
For anyone who has an iPhone 6 or earlier model, the iPhone 8 will be a revelation, and the 8 Plus, a lot of fun thanks to its Portrait and Portrait Lighting modes. Specifically, any iPhone owners who have felt that their phones underexpose by default should look into picking up an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus.
If you have an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus however, it’s a much closer call, and one that probably won’t justify an upgrade just yet. If this is you, we would recommend hanging tight until the iPhone X launches in November with its f/2.4 second lens, 18:9 aspect-ratio screen and Face ID front camera.

Quick Ways To Open The iPhone 8 Camera
Do you often find that you can’t open the native iPhone Camera app in time to capture a fleeting moment in front of you? If you’re fed up of missing out on great shots, this section is for you!
With these shortcuts, you can open the camera on iPhone 8 in less than a second! You don’t even have to enter your passcode to unlock your phone.
When your iPhone is locked, the easiest way to open the camera is to press the Home or power button, then swipe left. The Camera app will open and you’re ready to shoot.
Another way to open the camera from the lock screen is to swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen. This opens the Control Center where you can tap the Camera app icon (shown below).
You can also use this method when your iPhone is unlocked. You don’t have to be at the Home screen to access the Control Center. So it’s a great way to quickly open the camera without having to close the app that you’re currently using.
Of course, if you’re at the Home screen, you can tap the Camera app icon there. It’s a good idea to move the Camera icon into the dock at the bottom of the screen so that it’s always easy to find. Tap and hold the icon until it starts to jiggle, then drag it to the dock. Press the Home button when you’re done.
Knowing how to open the camera as quickly as possible is the first step to taking stunning iPhone photos. With these shortcuts you can capture amazing fleeting moments that you’d otherwise miss.
Depth of Field
While the difference is not much the wider aperture on the 8 Plus does seem to give slightly more separation when you shoot scenes that include near and distant objects, this is to be expected of course but it looks a little more pronounced than I had anticipated.
I assume that the higher level of overall lens/sensor performance in all measurable parameters is more important in changing that apparent depth of field rendering than the wider aperture. Basically slightly out of focus areas always look more out of focus if the in-focus areas are rendered truly sharply in comparison, which they are with the 8 Plus camera module.

Экспозиция
При всей превосходящей эффективности, я подметил у 8 Plus одну интересную особенность: в некоторых ситуациях он снимает ярче и светлее, чем 7 Plus. Правда, эта тенденция, похоже, проявляется только при съемке в портретном режиме. Вот, например, на этом изображении лицо модели технически снято с правильной выдержкой. Detail
The DNG files from the 6S plus are vastly better than the JPEGs. The JPEGs always show unpredictable mushiness, lack of very fine detail and sometimes look very watercolour-like. I expected the new HEIF format would be much less damaging to the files and thus the difference between DNG and compressed capture under normal shooting would not be as significant. So how did that assumption pan out?
Well, although not covered in this test, I did look at the compressed standard files and there’s no doubt they hold much better fine detail than the old mushy JPEGs on the 6S Plus, there’s far less of that watercolour rubbish I detest.
Frankly, I was not expecting a big improvement in detail rendition with the DNG files on the 8 Plus, the 6S DNGs were already capable of very well resolved results providing the exposure was nailed correctly. DNGs converted in Iridient extract about as much detail as you could ever reasonably expect from any 12-megapixel image. So are the 8 Plus better? In the center of the frame it’s a pretty close call, the native files showed little difference in detail but the win goes to the 8 Plus…just.
But, there is much more to it, the 8 Plus shows a higher level of clarity across the entire frame because the lens is simply better and more importantly the native noise level is much lower, meaning you can apply correspondingly higher levels of image sharpening without the noise becoming obvious and degrading the image.
The lower noise level pays off, particularly when applying very low radius sharpening to bring out textural details. With earlier models, you really had to back off early as you’d get a combination of ugly color flecking and rough grain. The 8 Plus files beg to be texture sharpened and respond really well to it.
Compared to the iPhone 6S Plus
Better, but not a chalk and cheese difference, in the end, you have more sharpening flexibility with new camera, that will be a big bonus for those wanting to crop the frames or blow up to larger sizes, in particular, the improvements in the corners of the frame are obvious.

The iPhone 8 features the same A11 Bionic processor found in the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X.
That power enables you to do a number of things, including run augmented reality (AR) apps, as well as the usual array of apps and games that you are already enjoying, or have yet to discover.
However, the iPhone 8 probably doesn’t need the power quite as much as the other two smartphones in the 2017 range, as it doesn’t feature two cameras, Face ID, or other image processor-heavy options that push a processor to its limits.
On the storage front there are now two options; 64GB and 256GB. The storage sizes reflect what we do with our phones these days, but there are a number of features built in to the iOS software that will try and offload as much as possible into the cloud if you’re worried 64GB just won’t be enough.
Whether that’s optimising your music, photos, or apps, for most we think the 64GB option will be fine. If, however, you know you like everything stored locally, and want lots of apps, you’ll need to go big or go home. And that will cost a pretty penny, because there’s no microSD card expansion for the iPhone, as there has never been.
